New appointment for QEII National Trust Board of Directors
Ms Gina Solomon has been appointed as a director of the QEII National Trust. Ms Solomon was appointed by the Minister of Conservation after consultation with the Minister of Maori Affairs. Her appointment is for a two-year term taking effect from 9 July 2013.
Trust CEO Mike Jebson says he is delighted to have Ms Solomon join the Board.
“Gina brings to the role a wealth of experience including extensive involvement in community and iwi networks to promote conservation of species and habitat protection.
“I look forward to working with Gina and benefiting from fresh perspectives she will inevitably bring to the Board as its newest member,” he said.
Gina sits on a number of boards and trusts including the Kaikoura zone committee for the Canterbury Water Management Strategy, Nelson/Marlborough Conservation Board, Kaikoura Marine Guardians Te Korowai o Te Tai o Karokura, Hutton's Shearwater Charitable Trust, the Maori National Network and St Paul’s Community Restoration Project.
Ms Solomon is of Ngai Tahu and Ngati Kuri descent, was raised in Oaro and now lives in Peketa, south of Kaikoura.
Ms Solomon replaces ministerial appointee Edward Ellison who retired from the Board in June this year.
“Edward served six years as a Board member. During this time the Trust has benefited from the governance skills and unfailing common sense he brought to the table. His commitment to the work of the Trust is acknowledged and greatly appreciated,” Mr Jebson said.
